by District Governor Kathleen Tyre
Lions that sponsor two or more new members this year will be presented with a beautiful “re-MEMBER Texas” Governor’s Challenge Coin; this is the only way to earn this commemorative coin, so start asking!
Congratulations to the following six 2-X1 Lions that have already accomplished this: Anthony Kottackal from Dallas Ace, Sanjeev Jaiswal of Dallas Indian, George Burke of Dallas White Rock, Claudia Kingston of Duncanville Noon, Greg Penny from Palmer, and Charles Warner of Richardson Midday.
If you haven’t visited the MD2 State website recently, I urge you to go check it out. It is fresh and new and filled with just about everything you want or need to know about Texas Lions including the “re-MEMBER Texas” campaign. A special thank you goes out to our own Lion Korky Kathman from Coppell Lions Club for this amazing web makeover. If you like the website, you’ll love the Texas Lions and the District 2-X1 Lions Facebook pages. It takes individual Lions sharing their stories and posts to get the most of social media.
I would also like to thank Seagoville Lions Club, Dallas White Rock Lions Club, and Dallas Oak Cliff Lions Club for warm welcome I received as made my Governor’s visit to their clubs. I am very much enjoying meeting new Lions and learning about their local projects.
Great to see and read your club’s service activity reports. Dallas White Rock Secretary Lion Ed Brown set the record for this month’s SAR’s. Way to go!
Wylie Evening, Richardson Midday, Red Oak, Ennis Host, Plano Evening, Commerce, Royse City, Plano Early, Garland Evening, Italy, Allen and Terrell Lions Clubs were also represented as reporting their clubs service projects. Good job Secretaries and thank you. With your commitment to filing these reports, I am sure that each of your clubs will achieve the Centennial Service Award Diamond Banner Patch for 2015-2016.
September will be another busy month with plenty of opportunities to serve. With schools back in session it’s time to schedule your LS&TF Eye Clinics, Reading Action Programs, and all the Lions Opportunity for Youth contests. I hope to hear about some great projects again next month.
Guiding Lion Training
Our GLT will be providing a Certified Guiding Lion Training on September 26, 2015. We have quite a few clubs in our district that want to rebuild and grow their clubs and have asked for the GMT to assist them in their efforts. In order to do this, it is vital that we have well trained, experienced Lions to serve as Guiding Lions for these clubs. If your club is considering starting a branch club and I hope many of you are, this would be a great training for the Lion who will serve as the club liaison to attend. If you are interested in attending the Guiding Lion Training please contact GLT coordinator Lion Fred Conger or any member of the DG Team or myself. Training will be at the Collin College Campus 2800 E Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, TX. More details will available soon.
Where there is a Need, There is a Lion.
Thank you all for your commitment to making this motto a reality.
